Lecuona to replace Aldeguer at the Australian Grand Prix

2026 WorldSBK runner-up Iker Lecuona will be back on MotoGP machinery this weekend as he steps in for the injured Fermin Aldeguer

Iker Lecuona’s (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) season is not quite over. After a double header in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, the #7 will now travel to Australia for this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix as he steps in for Fermin Aldeguer at Phillip Island. The BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP rider was injured in a crash at Mandalika and needed surgery on a fracture to the base of his first metacarpal bone in his right hand. With the Spanish star still recovering, Lecuona will step aboard his Ducati machine.

Lecuona has already raced for Gresini Ducati this season on a couple of occasions. The 2026 WorldSBK runner-up first replaced Alex Marquez at the Hungarian GP in June, where he claimed P7 in the Grand Prix. In August, he stepped in to replace Aldeguer at the British GP. He did not score points on that occasion.

A social post from Gresini Racing said: “Fermin Aldeguer will not take part in the Australian GP. Iker Lecuona will once again be aboard the Ducati #54. Fermin is working to try to be fit to race in Malaysia in less than two weeks.”
